Actor, singer, and athlete Matteo Guidicelli answered critics who continue to doubt the genuineness of his intentions towards girlfriend Sarah Geronimo.
Matteo was interviewed by Pep and other press members on Wednesday, September 13, for his upcoming concert, titled “Hey Matteo.”
The singer-actor daringly spoke up about the issue that he and Sarah are “using each other” for publicity.
He remembered going around “as Matteo… and everybody asks, ‘How’s Sarah?’” He also mentioned that people sometimes mistake them to be mere love team.
“I just wanna clarify, we’re never a love team. We don’t work together; we don’t want people to say, ‘Ah! They’re using each other.’ Or I sing with her or ganito [like this], or we’ll do a movie together,” he said.
He also opened up in public that he and Sarah turned down many offers to do projects together to guard their relationship. “There are more than ten offers, so many offers that we both say ‘no’ to because we wanna save our relationship. We know the true meaning of our relationship. It’s not showbiz, it’s real. We wanna protect that and we wanna really save that,” the actor-singer said.
When asked how he deals with critics, Matteo simply answered, “Siyempre [Of course] lot of people doubt, so I just walk away from it.”
He also disproved claims that he uses Sarah’s name at press conferences for more publicity. “I’d like to explain myself. Because in opportunities like this; tomorrow, the next day, people will say, ‘Ah, ginagamit na naman.’ [Ah! It’s being used again.]
“You know, in a presscon, these things really happen, and it’s a presscon, so it’s natural that you talk about these things.”
Matteo expects and prepares himself for the worse as, inevitably, and he is certain about this, that he would be compared with the Pop star Royalty Sarah Geronimo because of his upcoming concert and an album release. But he remains undaunted to create a name in the music scene.
“Yeah, I’m trying to do my own thing. She’s into singing… people will always compare, but I’m trying to do my own thing.”
When asked if it is a struggle to step out of Sarah’s shadow, he answered: “I don’t consider it as a struggle. It’s a challenge. The challenge is be myself, try to be myself, and do what I wanna do. It’s a challenge, it’s a good challenge.”
His concert entitled “Hey Matteo” will be held at KIA Theatre on November 30.
