“He was just letting off some steam,” Star Magic’s Johnny Manahan said about Star Magic talent John Lloyd Cruz.

This was his defense after videos of John Lloyd who was seen having a playful time with another Star Magic talent, Ellen Adarna, and their friends went viral on social media.

He was seen singing and dancing, and doing “crazy” things, including hiding beneath a kitchen stove while Ellen was busy pouring drinks.

People began ranting on social media, questioning the behavior of the 34-year-old actor—who, in the past, has cultivated a private, serious, brooding image — saying he was acting oddly at worst and differently at best.

Johnny Manahan, chairman emeritus of Star Magic, talent-management arm of ABS-CBN, issued a short statement in his defense. Mr. M, as he is better known in the entertainment industry, said the star was just getting some very-deserved time off from work.

Here is Manahan’s full statement, through the ABS-CBN primetime newscast, TV Patrol on September 11 as disclosed in a Pep news story: “John Lloyd Cruz works hard as an actor. 18 hour days at a stretch. He was just letting off some steam. In this age of an all pervasive social media, what is ok and innocent in private becomes worthlessly controversial in public. He will have learned his lesson and be more careful in the future.”

Prior to this, John Lloyd already posted on Instagram to apologize for his viral videos; saying he had learned his lesson, but that he has “no regrets” about making the most out of his vacation.
