- Organizer of pro-Duterte rally in Plaza Miranda apologized over girl group’s performance
- He explained they had no control over the entertainment because it was a free-for-all gathering
- He also said performance not meant to disrespect the Catholic Church or its faithfuls
MANILA, Philippines – A staunch supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte who organized the rally in Plaza Miranda last September 21 has apologized over the performance of Viva Hot Babes during the event.
Benny Antiporda, a board member of Subic Bay Management Authority (SBMA), said they did not mean to offend anyone with the stunt.
“Galing sa kaibuturan ng aking puso, humihingi ako ng dispensa doon sa aming mga na-offend [From the depths of my heart, I am seeking forgiveness from those we have offended],” he told GMA News.
“Pero sana po ‘wag n’yo pong masamain dahil hindi po namin kontrolado talaga ‘yung ganoong sitwasyon [But we hope that you won’t take it the wrong way because we really didn’t have any control over that kind of situation],” he added.
The girl group performed their racy number “Basketball” with a number of men picked from the attendees.
According to Antiporda, anyone in the rally could have spoken or performed as they did not have any outline or program to follow. Thus, he could not have stopped the Viva Hot Babes’ performance so long as they observed proper decorum.
“I apologize to the people because I have no control kung ano ‘yung [over the kind of] entertainment,” he said.
As for criticism the performance was done to spite the Catholic Church given that the rally took place in front of the Quiapo Church, Antiporda ruled in the negative.
“Wala ho kaming intensyon na bastusin ang simbahan [We had no intention to disrespect the church],” he said.
