The 2024 summer Olympic Games has been awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to Paris and the 2028 edition to Los Angeles following a vote in the Peruvian capital on Wednesday.

Paris will stage the event 100 years after its last Games in 1924. The upcoming Paris Summer Olympics will be the City’s third hosting of the said games, while Los Angeles will also organize its third Games on 2028 after 1932 and 1984.

Four of the six cities bidding for the 2024 Olympics has withdrawn amid concerns about the cost, size and complexity of organizing the world’s biggest multi-sports event.

Meanwhile,  baseball and softball’s chances of continuing as Olympic sports increased on Wednesday after the city of Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Games.

The two sports, which were removed out of the Olympics after 2008, will make a one-time comeback at the 2020 Games in Tokyo after organizers requested their inclusion under new International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules. Besides, Japan is a country where baseball and softball are hugely popular.

But Los Angeles’ 2028 games could see the Olympic life of the two sports extended, with moves from the sports’ confederation for them to be included in Paris 2024 games, as well as Los Angeles, where baseball is the national sport.

Based on IOC rules, each host city can propose the inclusion of sports that are popular in their country for their own Games.
