Police in Columbus, Ohio, arrested a 17-year-old mother on Sunday for stabbing her baby who is only one-year-old.
According to Columbus Police, officers were dispatched around 12:50 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of South 22nd Street on the report of a baby in need of medical attention.
When officers arrived, they found the victim, Lalanna Sharpe, not moving and and had multiple stab wounds on her body.
The child was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital , where she was pronounced dead at 1:28am.
Denise Alex-Bouzounis of the Columbus Division of Police emailed a statement to 10 TV regarding the child’s death: “Any homicide is a tragedy but for a baby to have her life brutally taken is devastating for her family, the community and our officers on the scene and investigating this case.
A neighbor was in tears when she described how the slain 1-year-old girl was always smiling and would say “hi” from her grandmother’s porch.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Cherise Reid said. “How could a mom do that with her own kid?”
The mother, Lachelle Anderson, was arrested and charged with murder.
