MANILA, Philippines – You resign, not me.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II had this to say to Sen. Risa Hontiveros after the latter called on him to resign following the exposure of his plan with the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) to file cases against her.

According to Aguirre, it is Hontiveros who should resign for disgracing the Senate with her alleged unlawful act when she revealed the contents of his text message.

[If there’s someone who should resign from their office, it’s Senator Risa Hontiveros because she has disgraced the Senate. Her violation of the Constitution was committed in the hallowed grounds of the Senate. She’s the one who needs to resign because she broke the law inside the Senaate.]

Aguirre also reiterated his threat to file a series of cases against the senator for the supposed breach of his privacy.

[I can file the administrative case in the Sandiganbayan. I am also thinking of filing a civil case. I will reserve my claim for damages and I will file that in the Regional Trial Court. And as for her breaking the rules of the Senate, I will also file an ethics complaint with their Committee on Ethics.]
