Transport group Pasang Masda and five other groups appealed for a jeepney fare hike as an answer to the increasing value of petroleum products

If the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) would grant the wish, regular fare would be from P8 to P10.

Meanwhile, Piston group disagrees about the fare hike; instead, they wish for a P5 discount for every liter of diesel, or removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products.

According to George San Mateo, national president of Piston, the government can require petroleum companies of the P5 discount for all jeepney drivers or suggest the suspension of VAT on petroleum products.

He added that the commuters don’t have to suffer the increase in Diesel and Gasoline prices; rather, let the big companies handle it.

On the other hand, a two-day transport strike will be staged by the group Stop and Go next week as a protest to jeepney modernization.
