Horacio “Atio” Castillo III was fortunate to survive a fire that struck a building in Paco, Manila when he was only ten years old.
The specific building razed by fire in December 7, 2005 was along Nakpil Street in Paco. The Castillo family was trapped on the building’s rooftop, but were rescued by firemen. Atio’s feet were injured and he can be seen in a video by GMA News being carried by rescuers.
Atio’s father, Horacio Jr., also got his foot sprained while trying to save one of his children.
After almost 12 years, 22-year-old UST (University of Santo Tomas) law student and fire survivor Atio had a bright future ahead of him with his second life. Sadly, that was taken from him by ‘brads’ as he was not fortunate enough to survive hazing rites.
Atio was pronounced dead on arrival at the Chinese General Hospital, after he was brought there by “Aegis Juris” fratman John Paul Solano.
Solano is detained at the Manila Police District as police investigate on Atio’s death. Solano is one of the 20 suspects included in the DOJ’s (Department of Justice) lookout bulletin order.
DOJ also launched a “Horacio Hotline” for people who can give information regarding the circumstances on Atio’s death: 0995-4429241.
DOJ Vitaliano Aguirre said: “To those who know anything about what happened to Horacio Castillo III, if you were there when it happened, then you have blood in your hands. Time to wash it with the truth and with justice for Atio.”
