The Philippine ice hockey team won the Gold medal during the Souteast Asian (SEA) Games at Kuala Lumpur.

Team Pilipinas Ice Hockey forward Paul Sanchez said: “I remember just hugging everyone right after we won and that in itself was amazing.”

According to Christopher Sy, head of Federation of Ice Hockey League Inc., the selection process for making the entire team wasn’t easy.

“Some of the players have started playing when they were small. Some have been playing 15 years ago, so they’ve been here for the longest time and some kids play sa rink so that’s how it started,” he said.

Team Pilipinas Ice Hockey’s hard work paid off and that is why they are more fueled to spread and share the sport in the country.

“We are excited and proud of our achievement. It shows to other Asian countries that the Philippines can play ice hockey, we have the skills to be world champion and we really knew that we’re going for gold, we are happy!” Sy added.

The team now strives and hopes again to win the gold again in their upcoming tourneys.

The team’s 2017 victory is the first ever ice hockey event in the history of SEA games.
