The head of the Philippine National Police, Chief General Ronaldo “Bato” dela Rosa, admitted that he is not closing on the possibility of running for higher office in 2019.
General dela Rosa is set to step down this coming January 2018 and candidly shared that he is “open for anything” when it comes to his political aspirations. He was quoted by ABS-CBN saying that although he is contented with his job as a policeman, he is ready to step up given the chance, “Kung may tsansa, depende na sa sitwasyon. I am open for anything. Pero sa ngayon, wala pa sa isip ko ‘yan. Trabaho lang muna ako bilang pulis.”
He also answered the question on whether he still wants to be appointed to another position. Gen. dela Rosa said, “Handa na ako magretire at magrelax. Kung bibigyan ako ng another trabaho, hindi ko pwedeng iturn down si Presidente. Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa kanya.” [I am ready to retire and relax. But if I am given another job, I cannot turn down the President. I owe him a debt of gratitude.]
This isn’t the first time, dela Rosa openly admitted on the possibility of running for Senate. Back in May 2017, he was quoted by Inquirer in an interview with DZMM, “Hindi po ako plastic na tao. Ako ay gusto na maging senador din ako.” [I am not a fake person. I want to become a senator myself.]
