Three persons died – two of them children – after a footbridge in Cebu City collapsed when people rushed and overcrowded the bridge to witness a big snake by the river.
It was the strong current of a river in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, that killed them; sweeping them away during the heavy downpour Friday.
During the heavy rain, water in the river rose by as much as four feet, and lurking creatures were drawn out of hiding.
News about a big snake spread fast, drawing people to flock and gather at an old footbridge.
Not less than ten people fell on the water when the footbridge collapsed. Others were rescued, but sadly, some were not lucky enough.
After hours of searching, three dead bodies were found.
The authorities are investigating the tragic incident and and plan to move the settlers away from the riverside.
