Miss Earth PHL Karen Ibasco wins Darling of the Press award, currently leads medal tally

About 80 candidates of Miss Earth 2017 Pageant were presented to the press on Monday, October 30 at Diamond Hotel in Pasay City.

And when the beauties catch the eyes of the media, Miss Philippines Karen Ibasco was quickly recognized as “Darling of the Press,” while Paweensuda Drouin (Thailand) and Abigail Chama (Zambia) were runners-up.

Karen Santos Ibasco (born December 17, 1990) in Manila is a medical physicist. She obtained her bachelor and master’s degrees in applied physics major in medical physics at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) where she graduated cum laude on both degrees.

For the Miss Earth 2017’s medal tally, Karen already bagged 3 gold medal awards for Darling of the Press, National Costume Competition, and Swimsuit Competition. She also won 2 silver awards for Resorts Wear Competition and Long Gown Competition.

Miss Earth 2017 will be the 17th edition of Miss Earth pageant, scheduled on November 4, 2017 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena, a 20,000-seater indoor arena in Pasay, Metro Manila.

This is the second time for Mall of Asia Arena to host this prestigious event for two consecutive years.

Katherine Espín of Ecuador will crown her successor at the conclusion of the event. 

2017’s pageant theme is “Heroines Fighting Climate Change.
