To ease the traffic this All Saint’s Day and for the upcoming Christmas season, road reblocking and other road constructions will be prohibited at Metro Manila, However, select road works will be exempted.

Open excavations, road reblockings, and installation of pipes will be temporarily prohibited from November 1, 2017 to January 15, 2018.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the road constructions create delay to motorists especially during the upcoming Christmas season when vehicle volume is expected to increase.

MMDA Assistant General Manager for planning Jose Garcia Jr. said they held a meeting with the contractors on Monday to submit a list of their projects and their schedules. They were given time to submit the list until October 25.

Unfinished excavations were only given until Sunday, or else, MMDA will cover them up.

Exempted from the moratorium are infrastructure projects like MRT7, Skyway Stage 3, sidewalk repairs, and emergency repairs. The MMDA would think for a plan for the exempted projects to be done only at night time.

Meanwhile, the MMDA said that so far, their idea “EDSA malls to operate 11AM-11PM on weekdays starting Oct.16; Promo sales on weekends only” have somehow eased the traffic in Metro Manila.
