The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) raided the house of Maasim, Sarangani Mayor Aniceto Lopez, Jr. early Friday morning, October 6, where a kilo of shabu, a green book containing drug transactions, mini shabu-laboratory and other drug related items were seized.

As per a Rappler story, PDEA, with the assistance of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army, went to the mayor’s house at around 3 a.m. to serve a search warrant. Mayor Lopez and his family, however, were not home during the raid. Only the caretakers were present.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino believes Mayor Lopez was tipped off.

“Wala po si mayor doon that time. We thought nagkaroon ng leak ang operation namin kasi may information kami na andun siya sa loob ng compound niya. At the time na pumasok kami wala siya. We just conducted search sa compound,” the PDEA chief said.

[The mayor was not there that time. We thought our operation was leaked because we have information that he was inside his compound. At the time we entered, he was no longer there.]

The raiding team found a kilo of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) with an estimated value of P5 million, a green book that contains drug transactions and names of narco-politicians including the late Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and late Albuera, Leyte mayor Rolando Espinosa who were both killed in police operations.

A flask and vials believed being used in manufacturing shabu and several pieces of drug paraphernalia were also found inside the mayor’s house.

Aquino said Mayor Lopez sent feelers that he would surrender.
