- The PDEA bared that 3 transnational drug syndicates are the sources of illegal drugs in the Philippines
- He identified the groups as the Bamboo Triad, 14K Triad and the Sun Yee On Triad
- PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said the groups are engaged in large-scale drug-trafficking around the world
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) disclosed that three transnational drug syndicates are the biggest sources of methamphetamine hydrochloride, known locally as shabu, in the country.
According to Philstar, PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino identified the drug trafficking organizations as the United Bamboo Gang, or the Bamboo Triad; the 14K Triad, or Hongkong Triad; and Sun Yee On Triad.
Aquino said these groups are the most powerful drug trafficking organizations involved in the global illegal drugs market and are making the Philippines as its “playground.”
“These three drug triads are making the Philippines their playground. They are resorting to drug smuggling, either in the form of finished product or raw materials, and cook shabu in high seas because of the dismantling of several major shabu laboratories offshore lately,” the PDEA chief said.
Aquino said the United Bamboo Gang is from Taiwan, the 14K Triad was originally from Guangzhuo, China but relocated in Hong Kong, while the Sun Yee On Triad, said to be the most organized and wealthiest triad, started in Hong Kong in 1919 and is now based in the mainland China.
These groups are engaged in large-scale drug-trafficking around the world, says Aquino.
