A licensed doctor and a government official were arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Davao City for selling illegal drugs.

In a buy-bust operation, the operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Dr. Stephen So Tay, a surgeon of the Metro Davao Medical Center, together with the DENR-PENRO (Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer) OIC Benjamin Medel.

The two were caught at  a high-end subdivision in Davao City, right inside the residence of Dr. Tay at No. 3, Marigold Street, San Pedro Village.

The suspects, who tested positive on drug use, declined to give any statement.

A total of 9 grams shabu, 32 capsules and 17 tablets of ecstasy, 10 grams of suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a hand grenade were recovered from the suspects.

According to PDEA XI legal officer Behn Joseph Tesiorna, Dr. Tay’s house has been used habitually as a drug den. As per an intelligence report, Dr. Tay allegedly swaps sex for drugs as part of his modus operandi.

PDEA now focuses on high valued targets. In fact, a spokesperson said they are monitoring the illegal activities of a narco-politician and the surveillance and case build-up phase is going on before they go to an arrest operation.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a video by GMA News that they are willing to cooperate anytime PDEA wishes them to.
