The last Mambabatok Apo Whang-Od Oggay visited Manila for the very first time on Friday as a guest and to showcase her talent during the Manila Fame exhibit at World Trade Center, Pasay City.
Together with other tribespeople from Buscalan, Kalinga, she was brought by a helicopter of the Philippine Air Force to support the exhibit promoting the Filipinos’ exceptional talents and crafts.
When Whang-Od was asked if she’s sad for being away from her hometown, she answered: “Paano ako malulungkot, maraming tumatangkilik sa akin. Mag-tattoo na tayo.” [How can I be sad when lots of people patronize me. Let’s tattoo!]
Meanwhile, Clayton Tugonon, organizer of Manila Fame, said that Apo Whang-Od just proves that the Filipinos are very creative.
“It’s about Filipino creativity and we have to capitalize that because in it, talent ng mga Pilipino iyon,” he said.
Also presented at the exhibit are products made from pandan, tinalak, palma, abaka and rattan which are all tatak-Pinoy, and best quality export goods.
The exhibit is open to the public until Sunday, October 22.
