The Office of the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal from service of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog

• The President dubbed the ombudsman’s dismissal order against the mayor a “very, very late gesture”

President Rodrigo Duterte was not in any way impressed by the late move by the Ombudsman to dismiss Iloilo City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

As per GMA, President Duterte said the Ombudsman dismissed Mayor Mabilog to make it appear it was supporting him.

“Mabilog is, I think a cousin of (Senator Franklin) Drilon. Wala na. The Ombudsman, in a very, very late gesture, para kunwari na sinuportahan nila ako [to make it appear they are supporting me], fired, stripped him of his mayorship,” the president said.

The Ombudsman ordered Mabilog’s dismissal from service after he was found to have lied regarding his “unlawful acquisition of wealth.”

President Duterte has earlier accused the mayor of having ties to the illegal drug trade in Iloilo City, which the President dubbed as the “most shabulized” city in the country.

The mayor, who is currently out of the country on an extended leave, denied the President’s allegation.
