Former houseboy, babysitter, vendor ranks 3rd in Teachers board exam

Because his father passed away early, Richard Cavillas of Buhi, Camarines Sur have to step up, try every job he can and be responsible to help his mother. But those challenges didn’t stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a teacher. Much more, he ranked third in the most recent National Licensure Examination for Teachers (Elementary).

His mother, who also works as a domestic helper, can’t stop herself from feeling proud over such an achievement.

“Proud din ako sa anak ko. Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng nagsuporta, tumulong, para maabot niya ang pangarap niya,” said Felisa Cavillas, Richard’s mother. [I’m proud of my son. I’m thankful for all who supported and helped him achieve his dream].

Richard was granted a scholarship and he persevered all the more and didn’t disappoint those who helped him.

His advice to his fellow future teachers: “Mag-aral lang nang mabuti. Kung hindi man makapasa, marami pa ring tiyansa. Sige lang nang sige!” [Study hard. If you fail to pass, there are still other chances. Just keep going!
