- Senate president said he could quit politics just like fellow lawmaker
- He complained about turncoats, said he is frustrated by their entry into PDP-Laban for convenience
- He however said he will continue pushing them to accept the party’s ideology and platform
MANILA, Philippines – Just like his colleague Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said he could also quit politics anytime.
“Pareho kami ni Manny [Manny and I are the same], anytime we can turn our back to politics,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying.
When asked why he would resign for good, Pimentel said it would be because he is frustrated by the number of turncoats who enter the PDP-Laban for convenience and without even adhering to the party’s ideology.
“Nagsali-sali sa partido, hindi naman naniniwala sa party ideology; o hindi ba frustrating ‘yun? Dapat sumasali sa party dahil naniwala sa program, sa ideology ng party, hindi dahil sa amin ang Presidente. Hindi dapat ganun,” he said.
[When they join the party but they don’t believe in the party ideology, isn’t that frustrating? You should join the party because you believe in the program, in the ideology of the party, not just because of the President. It shouldn’t be that way.]
Pimentel stressed, however, that their increase in ranks also provides an opportunity to mold the mindsets of the party’s newest members so that they can become a united front for PDP-Laban.
“And kung ma-convert sila, then well and good. Gaganda ang pulitika sa ating bansa kasi based on party programs na, hindi na on personality,” he said.
[And when they convert, then it’s well and good. The politics of our country will improve because it would be based on party programs and not on personality.]
