MANILA, Philippines – Aside from escaping traffic with her infraction, beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez may have escaped with her life as a government official said she could have been easily mistaken as a terrorist.

According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Task Force ASEAN chief Emmanuel Miro, government forces could have shot at Lopez after the latter used the lane meant for visiting dignitaries.

“Assuming na may head of state na dumaan at nakaalerto ang mga puwersa at nakaposisyon ang sniper, puwedeng mapagkamalan siyang bomber,” GMA News quoted him as saying.

Miro explained that they have already alerted the police to apprehend future violators as the MMDA itself enforces a no-contact policy.

“In-alert na ang counterpart namin sa PNP to apprehend violators in the future. Ang puwede lang dumaan sa lanes kapag hindi dumadaan ang leaders ay marked vehicles, ambulance, and friendly forces such as police and military,” he said.

As for Lopez, Miro said they’ve begun consolidating the necessary evidence to charge her in court.

“Ipapa-receive namin sa LTO ‘yung sa driver’s license cancellation or suspension. Inaalam pa ‘yung exact location basta sa area between Shaw Boulevard and Ortigas,” he said. “‘Yung Facebook post and CCTV, isa-submit in addition sa iba pang evidence.”
