Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said he is grateful to House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for endorsing him to run for senator under the PDP-Laban senatorial slate.

But Sec. Roque said he remains focused on his current job as President Rodrigo Duterte’s speaker.

“I am very thankful for the confidence shown by Speaker Bebot Alvarez. I cherish the encouragement and humbled by the endorsement,” he said in an audio statement to reporters.

“I am however focused on my new job as the President’s spokesperson and my priority right now is to do my absolute best in communicating the message of President to our people,” he added; saying also that he intends to be President Duterte’s “best spokesman.”

He disclosed, too, that he does not have the funds to launch a senatorial campaign.

“I am also without means to pursue a Senate bid. So while I am thankful, I reiterate that my priority is to be the best spokesman that I can be for the president,” he added.
