A troop of cops were ambushed by suspected members of the New People’s Army on Sunday morning in Surigao del Norte’s capital, Surigao City.

Chief of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) Surigao del Norte Police Superintendent Diomedes Cuadra, Jr. said they were on their way back to their headquarters at around 10AM when approximately 15 armed men led by an alias “Jun” fired shots at them in Barangay Trinidad.

They fired back and were backed up real fast by responding policemen which made the suspected rebels retreat.

The PPSC troops reportedly used a drone to locate the armed men and another gunfight ignited, but the suspected rebels managed to escape.

Luckily, no one was killed and no one was wounded among the policemen.
