Two men, one a former police officer who was dismissed from service for planting evidence, were arrested by authorities on suspicion of being gunrunners for an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Philstar mentioned in its article dated December 6, 2017, that the suspects were nabbed in an entrapment operation conducted by the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Sunday, December 3.

Senior Superintendent Wilson Asueta, head of the CIDG’s National Capital Region office, said ex-cop Maurito Reniedo, and Gerry Desoacido were caught with a caliber 5.56 automatic rifle, a 9mm pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, five magazines of different calibers and assorted bullets at a KTV bar along F.B. Harrison street n Pasay City.

The 9mm pistol was Reniedo’s service firearm, Asueta said.

“They are connected to a prisoner inside the NBP,” Asueta said without naming the inmate, who was reportedly also a dismissed police officer, as an investigation is ongoing.

The two suspects were charged with violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
