The chairman emeritus of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Manny V. Pangilinan urged Gilas Pilipinas coaching staff to already plan its team formation and roster who will play in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
According to Pangilinan, he is hoping the coaching staff, led by head coach Chot Reyes, will put in extra effort in assembling a squad that can be at par with the world’s best teams.
Pangilinan mentioned names who may be included in the line-up, such as Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Roger Pogoy and Ricci Rivero of De La Salle University Green Archers.
“The players who are likely to compose the 2023 team are not the Jayson Castros, the current players you’re seeing,” Pangilinan said on Thursday. “I think the players must be probably between 26 and 32. So people like Pogoy, Kiefer, Thirdy Ravena, Ricci Rivero.”
“These are the guys, the future players who will constitute the team,” he added. “We have to start training them now,” he added.
