Mariel de Leon had been firm that she didn’t mean to throw shade at Miss Universe Philippines Rachel Peters during the pageant.
The controversial beauty queen has drawn ire from netizens for her outspokenness and strong political opinions. During the coronation of the Miss Universe 2017 when Rachel Peters failed to reach top 5, Mariel found herself in hot waters again after she tweeted about the pageant.
Netizens called her out for allegedly throwing shade at Rachel. Mariel already defended herself that she wasn’t alluding to Rachel’s performance.
She again reiterated her stand that she didn’t intend to throw any shade towards her “friend.”
During an interview with Boy Abunda, Mariel said, “That one I was very confused because I was just tweeting my thoughts during the whole pageant. And I don’t know how they connected me throwing shade at Rachel.”
She clarified that Rachel is her friend, “Because in the first place she’s my friend and I wouldn’t throw shade at her in any way. I was just talking about Miss Universe organization itself and about the other girls also because at the end of the day just because we’re from the Philippines and my friend is Rachel doesn’t mean we should put down other girls.”
The feisty beauty queen’s acting will soon be seen as she stars with Coco Martin in Ang Panday. The movie will be shown on December 25, as part of MMFF.
