China donates P7.7 million to Pampanga provincial government to boost its anti-avian influenza program.

The check donation, which Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhuan called a “token of friendship,” was done in a simple ceremony at the Chinese Embassy in Makati City. Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, accompanied by former president and now Representative of Pampanga 2nd District Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, received the check.

“China suffered many cases of bird flu and natural disasters and we feel the same (losses). Please regard this as a token of friendship that has lasted thousands of years. China is not only a friend of the Philippines. China is also a friend of Pampanga,” Zhao said.

According to Rappler, Governor Pineda, who thanked the Chinese government for the check and Arroyo for facilitating the donation, said the money would be used to buy and operate a mobile laboratory that would go regularly to poultry farms in the province to conduct tests on chickens and other birds as a pro-active measure against bird flu.
