On Sunday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will intensify its intelligence operations to address the supposed attempts of the New People’s Army (NPA) to expand its activities.
The PNP said in a statement that the move follows President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) as a terrorist group.
According to PNP Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Dionardo B Carlos, they are prepared to address threats posed by the communist NPA against communities, industries, private businesses and government installations.
Carlos said that the PNP maintains tactical capabilities through its national regional, and provincial forces to respond to contingencies which could possibly arise from terrorist activities.
In the same statement, the PNP spokesperson also warned that those providing financial and material support to the CPP/NPA may be held liable for serious violation of the law either as accomplices, conspirators, or accessories to terrorism.
