At least 600 pieces of assorted firearms seized in Marawi City from the members of the Maute Group and Abu Sayyaf Group will be destroyed on Wednesday, December 13.
As per the Inquirer, President Rodrigo Duterte will witness the demilitarization of the weapons at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Taguig City.
Philippine Army Spokesman Lt. Col. Ray Tiongson the weapons, which include assault and sniper rifles, as well as rocket-propelled-grenade launchers, will be destroyed using a road roller and a circular saw.
“So ang gagawin dun ay dadaanan ng road roller vehicle… ‘yung pison… then puputulin ‘yun ng metal bound circular saw,” Tiongson said on Tuesday, December 12.
[So, it will be run over by a road roller…a compactor… then it will be cut by a metal bound circular saw]
The destruction activity, according to Tiongson, will only be ceremonial as they follow a procedure in weapons disposal.
“May procedure pa ‘yan for disposal. Meron kasing mga direct policies or directives ‘yung Armed Forces kung paano siya i-dispose. So bukas is ceremonial demilitarization ang gagawin,” he said.
