Early morning of December 26, 2017, a public transportation bus caught fire while it was passing through Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Some concerned motorists alerted the bus driver when they saw that one of its rear wheels have burst into flames while it was approaching Bocaue Toll Plaza.
The fire quickly sparked the blaze on other parts of the bus and in just a few minutes, the entire bus was burning.
According to ABS-CBN News, despite the quick spreading of fire none of the 40 passengers got hurt.
Reports say that some passengers have already noticed that something was wrong with the bus while they were still in Dau, Pampanga; however, Rodrigo Manlapaz, the driver, ignored it thinking it was just a small problem with the bus’ propeller. He just decided to travel at a slower pace despite the bad condition of the bus.
Manlapaz tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire but it didn’t work. The fire was already huge that it required assistance from a firetruck which was contacted by NLEX authorities.
Although no one was physically hurt in the incident, some passengers still lost their belongings which were stacked inside the burnt bus compartment.
