  • President Rodrigo Duterte said chewing gum helps alleviate the pain brought on by spinal problems he incurred from past motorcycle accidents
  • The 72-year-old President has been seen many times doing the habit in public and TV

Duterte said during a Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) event on Thursday: “Bayaran mo lang ako chewing gum kasi it eases up the pain when I’m chewing. Nawawala ‘yung spinal ano ko… it eases a bit.” [Just pay me with chewing gum because it eases up, alleviates my spinal pain when I’m chewing].

The president made the comment when asked how businessmen could repay him for addressing any complaint against erring government employees.

Duterte also told businessmen not to give in to demands of corrupt public officials, and that they should, instead, make the complaint to the concerned authorities.

The President is known for his casual demeanor and attire which he brings may it be unofficial or official functions.

But his attitude and being ‘casual’ also adds up to his appeal to the masses.

Aside from spinal pains, the President also said he suffers from migraines and ailments including a cardiovascular condition and inflammation of blood vessels.
