- PH chooses Japan’s company Sumitomo, together with its technical partner, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as the one who will facilitate the rehabilitation of MRT 3 over Busan Universal Rail, Inc. (BURI) with hope for a better quality of service
- The signing of a 3-year rehabilitation and maintenance project of MRT 3 will be anytime soon
Looks like Japan has won the heart of the Philippine government again, as Sumitomo Corp. is being tapped as the one who will facilitate the rehabilitation of Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) together with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; its technical partner.
During the Aquino administration, Sumitomo’s contract as MRT’s maintenance provider got terminated and was replaced by Busan Universal Rail, Inc. (BURI) in 2012.
However, Pres. Duterte terminated BURI’s service due to a lot of negative feedback and unsatisfactory maintenance work.
Now, PH restored its confidence in Japan’s quality of service and hopes to seal the deal soon. Hopefully, MRT 3 service will have lesser to zero technical glitches as Japan is noted for being a technology expert in producing high quality machinery and other mechanical equipment.
In an interview with GMA News, Department of Transportation (DOTr) director for Communications Goddess Hope Libiran confirmed that Japan has already sent a diplomatic correspondence to the Philippine government regarding the rehabilitation project of MRT 3.
At the same time, the country have also responded to Japan’s diplomatic note through the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The signing of a 3-year rehabilitation and maintenance project of MRT 3 will take place soon. The time and location where the signing of contract will take place remain undisclosed as yet.
