A suspected drug trafficker who surrendered to the authorities in October 2017 was killed and dumped in an irrigation canal in Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija. He ranked fifth in the municipality’s drug watch list, according to police.
Two farmers, who were about 300 meters away from the crime scene were tending to their rice field when they saw a maroon van stop in the area where the victim’s remains were discovered. The farmers claim to have heard a gunshot and saw the van immediately speed off.
The victim was identified as Delfin Matias; a 54-year-old resident of Talavera town.
Matias’ body was fished out of the irrigation canal at San Pascual village Saturday night by responding policemen.
Matias bore a gunshot wound in the head. Forensic investigators recovered from the scene an empty shell and a live bullet from a 45-caliber pistol.
