A 77-year-old man died after suffering from severe burns when he tried to save his sick wife from a fire that razed their house in Barangay Buenavista, Pagadian City on Monday.

City Fire Marshal Senior Insp. Edgar Quitoy said the victim identified as Vicente Pasco was pronounced in critical condition when he and his wife, Aida, were rushed to a hospital after the 1:45 a.m. fire.

Vicente later died while being treated of his severe burns.

Aida remained under medication.

Based on the authorities’ investigation, only the couple were inside their house when the fire broke out and spread to at least two more houses.

Fire Marshal Quitoy said neighbors heard Vicente screaming and saw him desperately pushing his wife out of the burning house.

The neighbors, barangay tanods, BFP and emergency responders  immediately responded to the fire and rushed the couple to a hospital.
