  • Senator Loren Legarda posted a 1977 throwback photo on her Instagram
  • She was just 17 years old at the time and posed for a Pond’s print ad
  • A commenter politely asked a photo of her in bikini and Loren replies “will look for one”

We see her in the news as a senator; yes, she’s a household name, so to speak. But younger people probably didn’t know that she was a former broadcast journalist and worked for known Filipino channels RPN-9 and ABS-CBN. But pushing back the years a little bit farther, maybe only a few are aware that she was once a fresh-faced teen beauty, modelling for print ads and TV commerials.

Really? Yes, it’s true.

The female senator shared on social media on Friday a photo of her 17-year-old self in a vintage print ad released in 1977.

She wrote on her Instagram post: “This print ad was released in 1977 when I first broke into the scene as a fresh-faced 17-year-old Pond’s girl. That’s how long I’ve been in front of the camera, in the public’s eye. I am grateful to @ponds for giving me the break that opened many doors for me. At 58, people ask about my skin care regimen and I tell them I still use this product until today.”

On the comments section of the Instagram post, Loren’s friend Toby Tiangco, a legislator, iconoclast, businessman and politician asked her for a bikini photo and here’s how the conversation goes:

toby.tiangco: ma’am pls post your [bikini emoticon] photo hehehe

iamlorenlegarda: What photo Toby?

toby.tiangco: bikini photo. hehehe joke lang ha. [peace hand symbol] peace

iamlorenlegarda: Will look for one [smiley]

toby.tiangco: okay very good! show them your ageless.

Looks like we have some waiting to do.

And who would forget about these commercials?

Thank you @peopleasia magazine for featuring me for the cover story of your latest issue. As always, it was a pleasure working with my longtime friend, Editor-in-Chief @joanneraeramirez, photographer Jun de Leon and Art Director Ramon Joseph Ruiz. Kudos to the fabulous @ericmaningat25 for my hair and make-up. Of course, I must give credit to the creative indigenous weavers and artisans who created the textiles and accessories I wore during the shoot: Kinaray-a weavers from Brgy. Bagtason, Bugasong, Antique, for my 122-year-old wild cotton indigo patadyong; Gaddang artisans from Mountain Province for my embellished belt; Ifugao weavers for my poncho; @tish21 for my Marikina-made shoes, and J.E.R. Shellcraft Creation from Cebu for my nito earrings. ? We had a great photo shoot at the nostalgic @thehenryhotel in Manila as well. This year, I celebrate my 58th birthday and 20thyear in public service. In the article, I gave the readers a glimpse into my life’s triumphs, challenges, aspirations and romances. ?
