A sub-leader of the BIFF was shot at Sitio Poypoyon, Barangay Dualing, Aleosan town, North Cotabato on Thursday night.
The dead man was identified as Buds Basilan, who has an outstanding warrant of arrest for arson.
He was stopped at a checkpoint and tried to shoot at authorities, said the police.
“Du’n na nag-fire ang tropa. Naunahan lang siya,” said Sr. Insp. Edwin Abantes, Aleosan chief of police. [It was then that the troops fired, we just drew faster.]
Chief Abantes said an intelligence report suggested that “Buds” planned to transport a homemade bomb to Barangay Dungguan, Aleosan from Barangay Kudarangan, Midsayap town.
Buds was reportedly brought to Aleosan District Hospital for treatment.
However, he was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered from Buds were a caliber-.45 pistol, a magazine with four bullets, and a hand grenade.
BIFF Karialan faction spokesperson Abu Amir said he personally knew the dead man as a member of the organization since the time of BIFF founder, Ameril Umbra Kato who died in 2015.
