- The BSP released a video featuring the new generation currency coin series
- The new coins bear national heroes, indigenous plants and the Philippine flag as designs
- The coins are all silver-colored
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) released a teaser video showing the New Generation Currency Coin Series.
The video, shared by Inquirer, shows the new designs of the 1-sentimo, 5-sentimo, 25-sentimo, 1-piso, 5-piso and 10-piso coins featuring different national heroes and plants. All the coins are round. Their main differences are in their slightly increasing sizes and the different edges.
The obverse side of P10-coin features the face of Apolinario Mabini and on its reverse side features the Kapa Kapa Plant (Medinilla magnifica). The P5-coin features Andres Bonifacio and Tayabak Plant (Strongylodon macrobotrys), the P1-coin has Jose Rizal on the obverse and the Waling Waling Plant (Vanda Sanderiana).
The 1-sentimo, 5-sentimo and 25-sentimo coins bear the same obverse design – 3 stars and the Sun (stylized Philippine Flag) and on their obverse sides are the Mangkono, Kapal-Kapal Baging, and Katmon plants, respectively.
Based on the video, the coins are all silver-colored. The 5-peso coin was released last year, but the BSP did not say when the other coins will be released to the public.
