- UP Diliman Chancellor urged University to build a nearby fire station since the nearest one is 20 minutes away
A fire broke out in the UP Shopping Center in Diliman, Quezon City on Thursday morning.
Thick black smoke bellows as fire blazed in the establishment. The shopping center is home to several eateries, computer and photocopying shops that cater mostly to students. Included in the blaze was a famous eatery, Rodic’s, which has been founded since 1949.
Quezon City Fire Marshal FSupt. Manuel Manuel shared with CNN that the fire reached up to second alarm at 7:36 in the morning. They declared fire out by 8:53 a.m. He also shared with ABS-CBN that the estimated damage was worth P500,000.
UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan urged the university to build a nearby fire station. He insisted that it’s high time since there’s an allocation from the local government. He said, “May nakaallocate na from the local government, sana naman this year maitayo na. Because the closest fire station is at least 20 minutes away. Panahon na. We have 70,000 people living here.”
