- Rodrigo Duterte, Joseph Estrada, Gloria Arroyo shared light moments together
- Arroyo also attended 80th birthday celebration last year
- Estrada and Arroyo had been bitter political enemies
On the sidelines of the meeting with local chief executives from Luzon at the Royce Hotel in Clark, Pampanga on Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte shared light moments with two of his predecessors who had been bitter political enemies.
The Presidential Communications Office shared the photograph of Duterte with former President and incumbent Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada, and former President and incumbent Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Arroyo who could be seen in good terms while having a conversation.
According to a GMA News story, Arroyo also attended Estrada’s 80th birthday celebration last year at the Manila Hotel which was likewise graced by Duterte.
To recall, Estrada faced allegations of corruption that spawned into an impeachment trial. Arroyo, the vice president at the time, joined the opposition against him and later took oath as the Philippine leader after Estrada was removed from office in 2001. He was sentenced to reclusion perpetua in 2007 for plunder but was later granted pardon by Arroyo.
Arroyo, after her term, was arrested for an alleged electoral fraud but released on bail. She was rearrested in 2012 due to the charges for the misuse of PCSO funds. In 2016, the Supreme Court acquitted her.
