A Chinese national was killed while three of his compatriots suffered injuries when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was carrying them fell into a deep ravine in Quezon province on Friday night, March 30.
As per GMA News, the SUV, a Toyota Fortuner with license plate number UWQ 955, being driven by a Filipino driver identified as Manuel Ramos was negotiating a sharp curved portion of the old zigzag road in Barangay Silangang Malicboy in Pagbilao at around 8 p.m. when the vehicle hit the concrete roadside barrier before falling into the ravine.
The fatality was identified as 46-year-old Hui Mao from Fujian, China. He was immediately rushed to the Jane County Hospital in Pagbilao, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The injured were also Chinese nationals identified as Cheng Bi, 27, from Hubei, China; Guxiang Mu, resident of Fujian, China, Zhang Muhuo of Hubei China. They were also brought to the same hospital for treatment, along with the Filipino driver.
David Ong, a Filipino interpreter for the Chinese nationals, said he was driving another vehicle behind the ill-fated Toyota Fortuner when the accident happened.
