Wowowin and its main host Willie Revillame were recently recognized at the 2nd Guild of Educators, Mentors, and Students (GEMS) Awards 2018; Facebook page Solid Kapuso Latest Updates posted on March 3.
GEMS gave the show the Best TV Special award for its Wowowin: The Marawi Tribute Puso Para Sa Bayan episode. In the August 29, 2017 episode; soldiers who fought in the Marawi siege served as the studio audience of Wowowin.
Willie, moreover, got the Natatanging Hiyas sa Larangan ng Telebisyon which equates Lifetime Achievement Awards, according to Balita.
The host said he never expected the award but he considers it as a huge achievement.
“’Di ko inaasahan ito. Napakalaking karangalan. Masarap na inspirasyon. Maraming nangyari sa career ko, bagsak-bangon, pero may premyo mula sa publiko at sa GEMS. Maraming salamat po sa tiwala at paniniwala. Hindi lang para sa akin ito kungdi para sa lahat ng nagmamahal sa akin, sa staff ng Wowowin, sa GMA-7at sa publikong hindi bumibitiw kahit saang network ako liparin ng kapalaran. Maraming-maraming salamat po sa GEMS.” he told Cristy Fermin.

Willie went through many television stations as host but fans never left him. In 2015, he bought an airtime from GMA Network for Wowowin which later became a co-production between the two. The show’s Sunday airing was moved to pre-primetime on weekdays, catering a much-broader audience.
