Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu revealed that he is not in favor of the planned 23-hectare casino to be built in Boracay.
At a press conference, the DENR secretary has hinted there are many places to build the casino other than the famous tourist spot, Boracay.
Cimatu was quoted by GMA as saying, “Marami namang ibang lugar diyan.” [There are many other places.]
However, Cimatu and Undersecretary Jonas Leones clarified they have yet to receive any requests for permit for the said project. He added that if the project pushes through, it’s still required to follow environmental regulations and laws.
Aside from Cimatu, DILG Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing III also expressed his disapproval on the planned casino.
Several lawmakers have also expressed their concerns on the effect of a huge casino to Boracay’s waste problems.
