Provincial officials fell into murky water after the wooden footbridge they were walking on collapsed in Zamboanga City.
On her Facebook page, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar shared what happened during their site inspection of houses intended for victims of the siege.
“A portion of the NHA-funded wooden foot bridge leading to the houses on stilts in Mariki collapsed a while ago while the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development led by Cong. Albee Benitez together with Mayor Beng Climaco, District I Cong. Celso Lobregat and other city officials and their staff and members of the media was doing site inspection of houses intended for victims of the siege. An adjacent bridge also collapsed several minutes later,” read the caption of the photos posted on the page.
Climaco has already ordered the immediate repair of the bridge and asked security forces to ensure order in the area.
