A Chinese woman who had been in a coma since November 2017 woke up after hearing the songs of Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, a local newspaper reported.

The 24-year-old young woman, who was not identified, was in a coma after suffering from a brain dysfunction due to lack of oxygen. Her heart stopped beating three times and her lungs and kidneys were severely damaged.

In order to wake her up, the attending nurse of the woman, Peng Keling, began cracking jokes and reading entertainment news to her, according to a report by South China Morning Post.

He also played Jay Chou’s music over a period of about three months.

“I listened to Jay Chou’s songs growing up, so I thought maybe she’d like them, too,” the nurse was quoted as saying in Wuhan Evening News, as translated by Taiwan News.

The woman came out of her coma in March and has since been transferred from intensive care to a general ward, according to the report.
