The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Martin Diño on Saturday revealed that at least 100 barangay officials who were on the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) narco list won in the May 14 Barangay elections.

According to Diño, out of the 207 barangay chairmen and councilmen who are on the narco list, a total of 115 officials ran for being re-elected.

“Out of 115 halos lahat nanalo,” [almost all have won] Diño said in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB.

Diño added that only one of the 115 identified barangay officials failed in his reelection bid after being charged by the PDEA.

Diño also said that the barangay officials on the narco list who were reelected will be closely watched by the DILG in coordination with the PDEA and the Philippine National Police (PNP.)

He stressed that barangay officials who will fail to report the existence of the illegal drug trade in their areas of responsibility will be charged and dismissed from their positions.

He added that the DILG will also conduct lifestyle checks on barangay officials.

The DILG will also be conducting lifestyle checks on barangay officials in Metro Manila, including their SALN (State of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.)

Diño said that he received reports during the recent elections that some reelectionist barangay chairmen bought votes for P3,000 each.
