President Rodrigo Duterte said on Saturday that he will fire five government officials and will add more to the list once he returns to Malacañang this week.

“I’m inclined to to fire somebody… I’d just want to talk to him before I do that. Itong isang [this one] undersecretary… Well, of course, I’ll just… isabay ko na sila lahat [I will fire them all at once]  and they are about five in the list,” Duterte said during a speech before local executives in Cebu City at the Waterfront Hotel.

The President did not mention names.

In another speech on Sunday night during the groundbreaking of a government housing unit in Negros Occidental, Duterte hinted that among those officials he will be firing this week is a head of an agency.

“I have fired and I will fire tomorrow some people. Meron pa, merong [there are more, there’s a] head of an agency,” he said.

Duterte said the agency is directly involved in the approval of gambling franchises.

“If you are granted a freeport, you begin to abuse by issuing so many franchises of gambling. Everything goes under regulation… I have to limit gambling. I do not like it. Ako, ayoko talaga, [Me, I’ve had enough] so as much as possible we limit it,” he added.

In other speeches he made in Cebu, Duterte said, “maybe I’ll fire the corporate counsel.”

In his speech during the opening of the Oil and Gas Production of the Alegria Oilfield Plyard-3 Well Site in Cebu, Duterte also said that he had asked an assistant secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to resign.
