- Mariah Carey was impressed with Pinoy internet sensations Aldrich Lloyd Talonding and James Walter Bucong
- The duo felt honored and surprised about it
- The singer-songwriter watched random people doing covers of some of her hit songs
American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey couldn’t hide her admiration for the Filipino internet sensations Aldrich Lloyd Talonding, 19, and James Walter Bucong, 23.
The multi-awarded singer watched the YouTube video of Aldrich and James’s cover of her 1993 hit “Hero.”
She was impressed with the rendition of her song and even called it “amazing”.
She also noticed Aldrich’s vocal technique and wanted to use it as well.
During an interview with ABS-CBN News, the duo shared their reaction after the well-known super star noticed them.
“Surprised tapos very honored kami and grateful doon sa pumili ng video namin,” Talonding said.
[We were surprised, very honoured and grateful for choosing our video.]
“To Miss Mariah Carey, thank you, thank you very much for the appreciation. Thank you for that song that inspired a lot of people,” he added.
They also requested to be able to watch the singer’s concert in the country this coming October.
It was in February 2014 that the video was uploaded and Mariah got a chance to watch it during the Glamour magazine’s web show titled “You Sang My Song.”
Aside from the duo’s performance, she also watched random covers of some of her hit songs from other people—including a video of a guy playing a violin cover of her song “Touch my body”.
By the end of every performance, Mariah gave a bit of trivia about her signature songs and people who had done the cover react on it.
“There is something special about it especially when you see such a wide range of people doing the song, different ages, and different places in the world. It’s really a nice feeling as a song writer.” Mariah said.
Mariah continued, “I think a lot of the way people have done these covers and added their own unique choices to it, for me that’s everything. And it’s really nice to see.”
