A passenger boat that was bound to Boracay capsized after it was damaged by huge waves around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The incident occurred between Caticlan and Boracay islands.

Most of the passengers of the boat were children, including infants.

Fortunately, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Boracay Fire Rescue and Ambulance Volunteers and Philippine National Police (PNP) acted fast enough to rescue the passengers.

Rescue operations were tough due to bad weather, but the heroic rescuers prevailed.

All of the passengers were rescued, although some had minor injuries.

The injured were immediately brought to Ciriaco Tirol Emergency Hospital in Boracay Island.

Meanwhile, as of May, 2018, Some villages in Boracay were placed under a state of calamity to rehabilitate the island and control human-induced hazards.

Pres. Duterte’s Proclamation No. 475 indicates that the state of calamity placed on Boracay island might exceed 6 months.

The action of the government justifies its decision to rehabilitate the island.
