- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged the public not to listen to her father’s interpretation of the Bible
- The mayor said the President’s interpretation is his opinion
- President Duterte was criticized for calling God “stupid”
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, known as Inday Sara to her constituents, told people not to listen to her father’s interpretation of the Bible or the Quran.
Her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, drew criticisms from religious groups after he called God “stupid.”
The President, during one of his speeches last week, blasted the biblical creation story.
“Who is this stupid God? You created something perfect and then you think of an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of your work,” the President said referring to God’s creation of Adam and Eve and then exposing them to temptation.
He also scoffed at the concept of original sin (whereby all humans are tainted by Adam and Eve’s wrongdoing); saying: “You weren’t born yet, but now you have original sin.”
On her Instagram post the Davao City mayor wrote: “Please do not listen to him interpret the Bible or Quran. He is not a priest, a pastor or an imam. He is the President. Listen only when he speaks about his work.”
She urged the public to criticize the President on his work and not on his “talkalese”; referring to her father’s penchant for talking whether it makes sense or not.
Mayor Sara urged people not to waste their negative energies on her father’s interpretation of the Bible; saying it is her father’s opinion.
Here’s Mayor Sara’s Instagram post:
1) This is the first time I will say it out loud and I hate to admit it because I love my two brothers too much but yes I am the favorite child, so that #babaeako campaign is doomed. What he doesn’t like lies not in the gender, but in the character, he has no respect for weakness. And many women and some men are known to be damsels in distress, that #babaeako included. 2) Please do not listen to him interpret the bible or quoran, he is not a priest, a pastor or an imam. He is the President, listen only when he speaks about his work. And criticize him on his work not on his “talkkalese” ??? Do not waste your negative energy on his interpretation of the bible, that is his opinion. He is protected by the Constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression even if he is President. #indaysaraduterte
