Direk Lauren Dyogi admitted that it was a “bad call on my part” when he missed the chance to work with Maine Mendoza.
In a video uploaded by Direk Lauren on YouTube, he showed the audition video of Maine Mendoza when she auditioned to be part of Pinoy Big Brother.
In the video, a young Maine can be seen introducing herself, “I’m Maine Mendoza, 20 year-old. I took up Culinary Arts in Lasalle College of St. Benilde.” Direk Lauren asked, “What’s your family’s business?” Maine answered, “Oil business and gasoline stations po.”
That season’s winner were Miho Nishida and Jimboy Martin.
Now, Maine has made a name for herself as part of the phenomenal loveteam, AlDub from the rival network, GMA.
Direk Lauren also shared that he too missed Nadine Lustre during the PBB Teen Clash of 2010. Nadine’s loveteam, James Reid, eventually became the winner of that season.
The ABS-CBN’s Head of TV Entertainment explained on missing out the talents, “Siyempre, isang tao lang ako. Marami pang ibang opportunities o avenues para sumikat. Marami na akong misses in the past. Maraming nag-audition sa akin na hindi ko napansin, pero sikat na sila ngayon.”
[Of course, I’m just human. There are many avenues and opportunities to become popular. I have made a lot of misses in the past. There were many who auditioned who didn’t catch my attention but they’re now big stars.]
“That’s a bad call on my part. But then again, gano’n talaga. Siguro hindi ako ang kanilang kapalaran,” Direk Lauren added. [They weren’t destined for me.]
Direk Lauren and his team are on a “Star Hunt,”to find new talents for ABS-CBN shows.
